Doug Smith
We first met Doug in the mid-nineties at the
Aladdin Theatre where we were all appearing in
the annual WinterFolk fundraiser. To say the least, we were all immensely
impressed with his
skill as a guitarist and composer, and with his friendly, approachable
demeanor.
Later we also came to enjoy Three Together, the band comprising Doug, his wife Judy Koch
Smith and Don Mitchell. Rite of Spring shared a show with them in early 2009 at
the Liberty
Theatre in Ridgefield and we are very pleased to have plans for further
cooperative ventures.
IDEA
Foundation
Since the early 1990s, following Michael’s
participation in a trade mission to Romania, Rite of
Spring have performed an annual fundraiser for the IDEA Foundation to aid the elderly
poor in
that country. They are truly the forgotten members of that society, in some
ways even more so
than the orphans we have heard so much about. We hope to see you at the next
event – these
are now turning into multi-performer festivals, so don’t miss out!
Peter Yeates
Peter has been associated with the Rite of
Spring for many a year, and often partnering with
another Portland music mainstay and Rite of Spring man, Rich Gillette. They’re
often working
as a duo these days at IRISHTOWN in Vancouver WA, where Peter is one of the proprietors
and where plenty of excellent music may be heard while enjoying great food and
drink.
Peter is recognized as one of the finest Irish balladeers in the USA – nay, the
world!
Tom
May
Tom has been a good friend of ours for more
years than we all probably wish to remember now!
He is one of the few remaining real troubadours – singer, songwriter and
travelling performer –
and in addition produces and hosts the radio program River City Folk on
which Rite of Spring
was featured some years ago. Thank you, Tom!
Whispering Roses
Whispering Roses is comprised of
the four sisters in the Bisceglia family – Terry has been
teaching music to the Bisceglia family for well over a decade. We just finished
recording their
second family CD in our studio, and have had a wonderful time working with
Sarah, Janna,
Krista and Kathrina, along with Noel (dad), Carol (mom) and Noah (brother).
You can read more about their musical adventures in their blog, too.
